Project: Short Film “Mortimus”

Location: Denver/Co Springs

Genre: Comedy, Drama

Logline: A young man, born with an old man’s mind, fights to live a life fitting to his age.

 

Roles:

MORTIMUS ( Late 20’s) Caucasian

A young man born with the mind of an old man. He longs to understand and accept who he is. At times a bit neurotic and others a bit nervous. His best friend was his grandfather, but after he passed away Mortimus has trouble adapting.

 

TEENAGE MORTIMUS (~14) Caucasian

 

YOUNG MORTIMUS (8-12) Caucasian

 

MOM (30-45) Caucasian

She doesn’t understand Mortimus. She is disappointed that he acts like his grandfather and pushes him to break out of it and get along with kids his own age.

 

DAD (30-45) Caucasian

Distant but loving, he is not seen much with his son, Grandfather spends more time with Mortimus.

 

GRANDFATHER (~>70’s) Caucasian

A gentle older man, he loves Mortimus and though he sometimes encourages Mortimus to hang out with kids his own age to please his mother, he truly enjoys Mortimus’ company.

 

JOEY (Late 20’s) Any Ethnicity

The most popular of Mortimus’ friend group, everyone likes Joey but it doesn’t go to his head. He is the first person to be friendly to Mortimus

 

TEENAGE JOEY (~14) Any Ethnicity

 

WILL (Late 20’s) Any Ethnicity

A shy insecure young man. He is a follower watching the lead that Joey and Emily take.

 

TEENAGE WILL (~14) Any Ethnicity

 

EMILY (Late 20’s) Any Ethnicity 

Young woman who is confident and forward. She learns to step back and be understanding with and kind to Mortimus.

 

TEENAGE EMILY (~14) Any Ethnicity

 

TEACHER (40’s) Male, Any Ethnicity

A kind and gentle nerd who truly cares about his students

 

MELANIE (~15) Caucasian

Uppity teenage bully at high school dance.

 

OLD LADY (70’s) Any Ethnicity

An older woman who calls bingo at the bingo hall.

 

HANK (70’s) Any Ethnicity

A bingo player who spills prune juice on Mortimus.

 

HATTIE (Late 20’s) Any Ethnicity

A young woman born with the mind of an old woman whom Mortimus meets at the park after accepting who he is.
